When I heard this news this morning I was very saddened. I wrote a small bit at my blog in reaction. I love that you mentioned, an Indiana literary legend is gone. I was thinking how yes, Vonnegut lived in New York for most or all of his adult life. But, to those of us who have lived in Indianapolis, and searched out street corners mentioned in his books, there is something that makes it feel as though he is ours. Thats not to say, exclusively, cause that would be selfish and he was greater than that. I'm rambling. I'm also very sad.

Vonnegut often went out of his way to emphasize his Indiana roots. He certainly wasn't ashamed to be a Hoosier. So, he is indeed ours.

By the way, I really like the picture of him that I posted. For someone who essentially gave up on being optimistic about the human race, he sure looks pleased to be alive.

He did always act as if he was ready to die, but I am not really so sure. I am glad I had a chance to be in his presence briefly at the Broad Ripple Arts Center.

I think he resembles Jim Croce in that picture, maybe that's why you like it.
